These days life is so busy sometimes we hardly have time to a really sit down to a nice and calm breakfast or lunch.

What about stopping at the end of the afternoon to appreciate the sun set, how many times a week do you do that? If you are like me you probably don’t do it that often…Life is so busy right? Work, study, house commitments, bills to pay and so much more.

What about that quality time with your family, for those that have kids enjoying your kids everyday and experiencing them growing older. How many hours a day you get to spend with your children?

If you are like a lot of people these days not that much, kids go to school, then after school care, guitar lessons, soccer, swimming lessons, friends houses and other things. You may have the chance to catch up at the end of the day if you are lucky.

These days it can be quite common that parents and kids are leaving such different realities and have very little in common in their daily lives.

Parents work very hard to provide they children with the best possible care. But at the same time can find it hard to have things in common that bring you close together.

You may get to the end of the day and ask question like how was your day: and you my get it; was good and that’s it. Not a lot of conversation flows from there.

My personal experience in coaching Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for many years has shown me that that parents that practice and enjoy the same sports as their children are interested in can have a higher engagement rate in conversation and as they have the ability to share common interests, talk about problem solving situations, set goals and have fun together at home and elsewhere.

That simple relationship and common interests can improve a lot of other aspects of the relationship with your children including their school and social behaviour.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is example of something that you can do at the club and also at home. If you are trying to spend more time with your children and have more things in common why not try Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or any other sport that your child
is involved in. That’s a great way for a family keep healthy and have fun together.
